Positive trends in visa liberalization process in Georgia
The Eastern Partnership initiative offers Georgia the opportunity to continue reforms and meet EU requirements in the area of justice, freedom and security. One of the main outcomes of successful bilateral cooperation between the EU and Georgia might be the establishment of visa free movement between the EU and Georgia in the near future. The Georgian government has put the issue of visa liberalization with the EU at the top of the political agenda. Political and civil society leaders concur that that visa liberalization should be one of Georgia’s national priorities. The new visa initiative could deepen EU-Georgia relations in political, economic, scientific, education and cultural affairs, improve conditions for private business development, and promote the political stability and economic sustainability of the state. However, the EU remains reluctant to speed up the visa liberalization process.
Interest Groups in Georgia: An Example of Professional Organizations
In modern Georgia political parties often fail to aggregate the interests of people and to give them the opportunity of making the government hear their message. Despite, this obvious fact the public finds it difficult to find other, different forms of civil activity. Is this because we need another lesson of democracy to be taught by external actors? Is it the government that has to make the first step and launch a top-down campaign? Shouldn’t the spread of liberties and democratic values result in a spread of associations and groups?
